There are several prophecies concerning the Cornerstone (Messiah).  This devotional will consider one of them as we head toward Good Friday which was dreary and dark because Jesus was crucified, dead and buried.
But followers of Christ are not defeated, depressed or without hope.  We have a risen Savior, the Cornerstone long promised by the God of the Holy Bible.

(NASB) Isaiah 28:16 “Therefore thus says the Lord GOD,
‘Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone,
A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed.
He who believes in it will not be disturbed.’”

No one needs to be dismayed, disturbed or hurry away in panic.  Why?
The Lord GOD said this prophecy.  His words are true and they are always fulfilled, always!

The Lord GOD laid in Zion a stone…not just any stone, but His own beloved and only begotten Son.

The Lord GOD laid down a tested stone…remember when Jesus was tested by Satan?  Immediately after Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River, He was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness and there tested for forty days and forty nights.  (Luke 4:1-13)  And He failed not one test!

The Lord GOD placed the costly cornerstone for the foundation of faith in Him.  Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross was costly.
Having faith in Jesus is to receive the best God has and it is costly.  It is not cheap or haphazard or flimsy.  There is no pipe clay or unstable ground underneath that foundation stone.  Houses, buildings, cars will not suddenly disappear as they do when a sink hole opens up.  There are no hidden fault lines that will shift the foundation as an earthquake shifts buildings in a matter of moments.

Nothing in this life, not the stock market, not politics, not wealth, not a house, not people (all of us fail others at some point in our lives) – nothing in this life is sure.
But Jesus!  He is the cornerstone, He is the sure foundation which God Himself has placed under all followers of Christ.  As we head toward Good Friday to observe the traditional day Jesus died on the cross, as we head toward Sunday to celebrate His resurrection – all followers of Christ are to shout Hallelujah!

Jesus Christ is risen; He is risen indeed!
