Red Letter Day

Attribute/Name of God ~ Outstretched Arm

What is an example of the LORD God’s ‘outstretched arm’ in Jewish history?
The LORD talked with Moses in the wilderness…giving him instructions and encouragement about what He would do through Moses in Egypt.  The LORD would free 2-3 million Hebrew slaves and bring them out of Egypt.  The LORD had the power to redeem them with His outstretched arm.  (See Exodus 6:6)

Many years later, Moses interceded on behalf of the Hebrews, reminding the LORD what He (the LORD) had done for the Hebrews by bringing them out of slavery to become a nation…the nation of Israel.
(NASB) Deuteronomy 9:29 “Yet they are Your people, even Your inheritance whom You have brought out by Your great power and Your outstretched arm.”

What do most of the Biblical references have in conjunction with the LORD’S ‘outstretched arm’?  His power!

A blacksmith has power in his arms as he bends heated iron to a specified shape.  God’s outstretched arm has power for you in the midst of broken relationships, oppressive circumstances, derision for the follower’s of Christ, governments being controlled by leaders who have no fear of God…don’t we need to remember that nothing, absolutely nothing, is impossible for God?

Jeremiah prayed the following; perhaps you also will pray these words for yourself and/or your circumstances:
(NASB) Jeremiah 32:17 “Ah Lord God!  Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm!  Nothing is too difficult for You…”

Consider the sun ascending in the morning and descending in the evening hours.  As the stars become more than pinpricks in the coming darkness of night, consider God’s power to create them.  Today, we know that there are many galaxies ‘out there’ in space.  Galaxies which have unique shapes and beauty.  All were created by the God of the Bible.  It was with His power, His outstretched arm.

Since this God is my God (is He yours?), my reliance on Him, my faith in Him and His powerful outstretched arm will mean that nothing, nothing in my life is too difficult for Him.

(NASB) Jeremiah 32:17 “Ah Lord God!  Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm!  Nothing is too difficult for You…”
